Sustainability: Sustainable Style for a Better World

Sustainability, Ethics & Slow Practices

At Conrado, we are committed to upholding our core values of sustainability, ethics, and slow practices in everything we do. From the materials, we use to the manufacturing process, packaging, and our vision for the future, we focus on environmentally-friendly practices that align with our beliefs.

Our company approach is built on a foundation of sustainability. We strive for environmental sustainability by using eco-friendly and recycled materials whenever possible. We go to great lengths to ensure that the textiles and materials used in our goods are ethical and responsible. By prioritizing sustainable practices, we aim to preserve the environment for future generations.

Ethics are a crucial aspect of our values. As a sustainable clothing brand, we prioritize fair labor practices and ensure that all workers involved in our manufacturing process are treated with respect and paid fairly. We are dedicated to transparency and traceability and work closely with our partners to ensure that they uphold our standards values and ethics.

Slow practices are a cornerstone of our sustainable brand. We believe in creating timeless, high-quality pieces that are made to last. We prioritize craftsmanship and attention to detail and take the time to ensure that each piece is made to the highest standard. We also aim to reduce waste by avoiding fast fashion trends and creating pieces that can be worn for years to come.

Sustainable Materials

Conrado focuses our sustainable efforts on fabric selection because the materials used in the fashion industry have the most environmental impact. We choose deadstock materials that are still useable but are seen as leftovers or waste from other brands and factories. We save the material from becoming landfill. We want to minimize our carbon footprint so we work towards sourcing locally near our production facility in the Philippines.

Since beginning in 2016, Conrado has been able to save over 40,000 yards of fabric from becoming landfill. We’ve created a Zero-Waste collection of one of a kind pieces that utilize our recycled fabric scraps. From patchwork garments, down to the smallest fabric scraps we create sleep eye masks, aprons, scrunchies, and other eco-friendly items in order to prevent further waste. Using deadstock fabric works well in order to create limited quantity production, making it so you won’t see everyone and their mama wearing it.

Conrado creates sustainable clothing that is made to last, perfect for those seeking long-term, sustainable wear. Pieces that will last more than just the season, but for many seasons and adventures along the way.

Sustainable Manufacturing

At Conrado, sustainability and ethics are at the heart of our manufacturing process. We believe that the fashion industry has a responsibility to provide goods made with respect for people and the planet.

We carefully choose partners who share our values and dedication to ethical behavior as we work toward sustainability. Together, we can influence the industry for the better and set an example for others.

Long-term, sustainable economic strategies are created by investing in our communities. By prioritizing local production we can reduce our carbon footprint, ensure that our workers are treated fairly, and be paid a living wage.

Our founder, Angela, is deeply committed to building personal relationships with our staff, many of whom have been with us for years working alongside our skilled seamstresses and pattern makers. Many employees have been with Conrado since Angela was young and taught her how to sew. To this day, Angela works side by side with our skilled seamstresses and pattern makers.

We believe in personal relationships with our staff and it's of the utmost importance that they are ensured a fair living wage, good working conditions, and regular hours. We recognize that a decent living standard for them and their family requires fair pay for a standard workweek.
We take a mindful approach to product releases, introducing each creation only when it's lovingly perfected. This way, we make sure our skilled artisans at our family's workshop in the Philippines are never burdened with excessive workloads or unrealistic demands. We cherish their craft and keep their creative flow steady, avoiding the rush through a multitude of tasks at once. Our dedication to sustainability and a genuine work-life balance guides our thoughtful strategy.

We are proud of the work we are doing at Conrado to create a more sustainable and ethical fashion industry, and we will continue to learn and evolve as we grow.

Eco-Friendly Packaging

Sustainable packing materials are another important aspect of our sustainability efforts. We use recyclable and compostable materials for our packaging and aim to minimize waste wherever possible.

To ship, we recycle cardboard boxes or use compostable packaging that is biodegradable. All orders are gently wrapped in recycled tissue paper. At the moment 75% of our shipping boxes are biodegradable, and 25% are recyclable.

Our garment size labels are made out of fabric scraps. The clothing hangers were thrifted from previous businesses on Martha’s Vineyard. Receipts are either emailed or texted in order to waste less ink and paper. Our in-store paper bags are made from 100% post-consumer paper.

We are committed to prioritizing sustainability, ethics, and slow practices in the future. We intend to increase our use of sustainable materials and collaborate with those that share our beliefs in order to reduce waste and lower our environmental effect.
